Chesty
Chestie then ...
Chesty
Chestie now!

"Chestie," not much more than five months old at the time, broke her rear right leg. Off she went to Dr Alejandro to have her leg repaired. Without surgery, she would never walk normally again. He did the surgery by placing a steel rod in her leg to stabilize the bone while it healed. Because of her poor health, it took much longer that the normal 8 weeks to heal, which was really an ordeal for her.

Because she wouldn't leave the incision alone, and kept chewing on the stitches, she had to wear a that "Elizabethan collar" for about fourteen weeks. She finally got the rod removed and was healing nicely, only to fracture a different bone in the same leg. This time she was placed in a cast for eight more weeks.

Chestie got good at hobbling around on three legs and on Sunday, doggy beach day, she couldn’t be kept out of the water. She is fully recovered, but with a slight hitch in her get-along . She has since gotten FAT 'cause Carlos keeps feeding her KFC.

Her new family will need to watch her weight, perhaps put her on a diet. She will be living with Tifffany and Stephan Dyck, and there has been some discussion of renaming her. How did she get the name Chestie? When she first came to Scuba Shack, she was in a cast, and limping like Chester in "Gunsmoke." Carlos wanted to name her Chester, but Susan said, "You can't name a girl dog Chester." So Chestie it became.

She's been spayed, is current on her vaccines, and she's bilingual; she understands and barks in both English and Spanish.
