markChuy's Story

Chuy picture and story

Chuy showed up at the Augier household when a friend was looking to foster him for a couple of days while he looked for a permanent home. This kitty was found on the Santiago peninsula living by an abandoned house. He was probably only six or eight weeks at the time and starving. Well, after only two days with the other three household (rescued) cats, Jerry and Lona wouldn't let the new little kitty leave.

Noche, one of the established rescues, groomed Chuy and made sure he got plenty to eat, and made sure the other two cats didn’t harass him. As a result, Chuy is quite full of himself, as you can see in the photo - he did not have self worth issues, even then. Chuy is now the largest of the cats and considers himself the alpha.

Chuy picture and story

As for the name, Chuy ... his new family wanted something Mexican, and had heard the name Chuy several times, so because he loved to chew on things, they decided that was the perfect name for him, and they adopted the Spanish spelling. Imagine their surprise when construction workers at their home were a bit taken aback at the name. Surprise to Lona and Jerry, Chuy is the nickname for Jesus!! Well, by the time they found out that they'd named their kitty after Jesus, the name had stuck. Now they just sheepishly tell people that no disrespect was intended.
